Isamu Noguchi Akari light sculpture. Model J1 on cast iron stand.

Hand-made form by Ozeki & Co. Ltd., Gifu, Japan.

Noguchi’s Akari series started in 1951, model J1 started in 1979.

Early model. Shade is marked with iconic red sun and moon ideogram. The cast iron base with red button is impressed ‘Isamu Noguchi Akari 1977’ (which is rare, later base models were typically just impressed ‘Made in Japan’).

Washi paper shade with bamboo ribbing supported by metal frame.

Measurements: 80" height with stand, 73” height of shade alone, 11" width, 11" depth

Condition: Shade has beautiful patina with a few areas of wear and minor separations to the paper, which is to be expected for a piece of this scale and age. Please refer to images and feel free to be in touch with any questions.
