About the Artist: Edgar Leciejewski (born 1977, Berlin) explores the various social and scientific uses of photography. His work employs an experimental, analytic approach to the medium of photography by using various techniques and media. Besides content-related issues and the reflection of his own work, he is interested in issues such as the rhetoric of the photographic series, the photographic genre, the composition, and how as much time can fit in a single photographic image. His pictures are repositories of time that allow for the slowing down of the act of seeing.

His work has been presented in several institutional solo exhibitions, such as at the Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig (2018), G2 Kunsthalle (2018), Kunsthalle Memmingen (2018); Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin (2017); Forum für Fotografie Cologne (2017); Fogo Island Art Gallery, Canada (2015); NSCAD University Halifax, Canada (2013); Stadtmuseum München (2011); Columbus Art Foundation, Leipzig (2009).

About Cibachrome prints: The cibachrome process (sadly no longer in use) produces photographic prints highly valued for their uniquely rich, saturated colors and increased archival stability over the traditional chromogenic processes. The super high gloss finish the process produces is closer to a showroom car than a photograph, making the print appear almost 3-D.

To get more technical, a cibachrome print is a high quality color print made from a color transparency enlarged directly onto reversal color paper. The paper is unique in that dyes are incorporated into the emulsion on the paper instead of being formed chemically. This gives exceptional color image brilliance. The paper is exposed to a transparency and the colors are recorded by complementary layers in the paper. Nan Goldin, for example, used the cibachrome process to print her 35 mm film as it contributed greatly to the sharp, bright quality of color in her prints.
